Factors of language change. A symposium in honor of Frans Hinskens

In the fall of 2023, prof. dr. Frans Hinskens takes his leave of institutional academia, but not of linguistics. On the occasion of his retirement, the Meertens Institute Amsterdam treats him to a one-day symposium with six speakers who engage with the many facets of Frans’ research output. At the end of the day, Frans gets to respond.

We have dubbed the symposium Factors of Language Change in honor of a central topic which motors most of Frans’ work, viz. the system-internal predictors of dialect and sound change.

Factors of Language Change takes place on November 10, 2023 at the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam.
