About LiME

LiME (Linguistics @ MEertens) is a group of linguists connected to the Meertens Institute interested in exploring the internal and external limits on language variation. They focus on language varieties spoken in the Netherlands on the one hand, and on varieties of Dutch spoken around the world on the other. This includes dialects, sociolects, ethnolects, standard languages, heritage varieties, and animal-human interaction. The LiME-group is characterized by its strongly collaborative spirit, bringing together generative linguists, usage-based linguists, and sociolinguists. Their common goal is to explore the interaction between language as a grammatical system on the one hand and as a tool for establishing and asserting one’s identity on the other.
